Founder’s Reflections
The 25-year story of Hydraform began in 1983 when Jochen Kofahl was retrenched
by a large engineering group that closed its offices in South Africa.
The timeline
Between 1988 and 2013 Hydraform has grown from a one-man-in-his-garage
business to a company that now employs 90 people in a wide variety of capacities.
Chairman’s Communiqué
JHM Carter first met Robert Plattner near Boksburg in 1992 for a demonstration
of a new building system and was completely blown away by the innovation.
The Indian adventure
Hydraform began its expansion into Asian markets through the establishment
of Hydraform India Pvt Ltd in 1995.
Case studies
The Hydraform Building System has been used to construct a wide variety of
buildings all over the world, as this small selection demonstrates.
MD’s Synopsis
Robert Plattner looks back over the past quarter of a century and realises that
Hydraform is not just a company, it’s a dream factory that began with a dream.
The team
Hydraform employs 56 people at head office managing logistics, research and
development, sales, technical, marketing, accounting and administration.
Foundation of an industry
Another 34 employees manufacture fundamental building blocks of Hydraform’s
building system – the machines that produce the soil-cement blocks and tiles.
Doing it right
Like every technical operation, making blocks with Hydraform equipment requires
adherence to simple procedures to ensure quality blocks and buildings.
Bigger and better
As the business grew, so did the need for bigger premises, which presented
an ideal opportunity for Hydraform to make use of its own building system.
